When we examine different home automation systems over time, we can see that they have always attempted to provide efficient, convenient, and secure ways for residents to enter their homes. The job of a home automation system has stayed the same regardless of changes in consumer expectations, technological advancements, or the passage of time.In recent years, the development of smart home technologies contributed to the transition of the home from traditional to a smart internet-connected one. A smart home is a residence equipped with technologies that include sensors, wired and wireless networks, actuators, and intelligent systems.Smart home and artificial intelligence technology are fast evolving, and a variety of smart house solutions using AI have improved residents' quality of life.
Several extensive review articles on AI technology in smart homes have been published. Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to any equipment that observes its surroundings and takes activities to improve its chances of attaining its objectives. Artificial intelligence in its optimal condition thinks like a person, thinks rationally, acts like a human, and acts rationally.Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are two digital technologies that will have a major impact on humanity's evolution in the near future. They've highlighted basic concerns about what we should do with these systems, what the systems should do, what risks they pose, and how we can keep them under control.Home automation's vision is to make homes simpler, better, or more convenient. It isn't just one technology; it's the combination of several technologies that collectively form one unified system. We plan to use artificial intelligence to create a automated home. Building automation for a smart home or smart house is known as home automation.
A home automation system will keep track of and regulate various aspects of the house. This project is being built with artificial intelligence. It can also be built using IoT and Machine Learning, but the primary issue with these two is hacking; our data is not secure in these two modules, therefore we are choosing the most secure technique, which is Artificial Intelligence.
The advantages and benefits that this project provides are the driving force behind it. We can effectively regulate our domestic appliances with just a few clicks. Because it is energy efficient, this technology will also assist users in saving electricity.
1. To improve the way of living:
Our main goal is to enhance the comfort and quality of life in the home. This home automation feature enables users to be aware of what is going on inside their home at all times. It will allow users to manage rote tasks, which will be extremely convenient for them.
2. To reduce the power consumption:
The goal of this project is to minimize power usage by the use of sensor technology. To devise a framework capable of achieving various functions such as self-identification,self-testing, and self-validation. A system capable of analyzing process parameters and making real-time decisions.
Project Implementation MethodProject implementation method:
This project is totally based on home automation techniques which have been concentrating on its achievement due to popularity of different aspects of artificial intelligence and deep learning. This project is being built with artificial intelligence. It can also be built using IoT, but the primary issue is that our data is not secure in these other modules, therefore we are choosing the most secure technique, which is artificial intelligence. Thus, saving energy.
Our project includes the controlling of three appliances i.e.:
- Lights
- Ceiling fan
- Air conditioner (also include temperature controlling)
We are using Raspberry Pi microprocessor, relay, camera, different sensors to perform these tasks.
- For the controlling, first We have used the human detection code to identify the presence of a person. This human detection helps us to tell the total number of persons as well. With the help of human detection, we will be able to give commands to our appliances regarding when to ON/OFF.
- Then, the data detected by the human detection will be sent to the relay which will make our appliances do their job.
- In light controlling, once the human is detected then the lights will on and will remain on for sometime incase the human will come back. Soon after sometime when no human is detected the lights will automatically turned off.
- Fan controlling has the same work function as lights i.e., the human detection and then working.
- In air conditioner controlling, similarly as the lights once the human is detected then the lair conditioner will turn on.
- After the air conditioner is turned on, then the air conditioner will set the temperature according to the room temperature i.e., if the room temperature is very high as compare to room temperature, then it will make the air conditioner work at low temperature (i.e., more cooling), similarly if the room temperature is average and it is not too hot then it will make the air conditioner work on high temperature (i.e., less cooling).
- This temperature controlling will be done with the help of temperature sensors and coding.
Most individuals were unfamiliar with the concept of home automation. Today's world is the world of technology, and now-a-days technology is becoming increasingly accessible. What is home automation, exactly? In simple terms, home automation gives the homeowner control over basic home systems and appliances while also allowing remote access.
1- In essence, this system is totally managed by artificial intelligence via the Raspberry Pi module, and no application or IoT technology is necessary because the system is based on picture processing and detecting humans.
2- At the moment, this home automation initiative aims to improve social life by creating an automated home environment.
3- This system can not only give us with the convenience of a smart home, but it can also switch off lights and fans while you are not in the room, as there is no point to turn on the light in an empty room. They circulate cool air to help your air conditioner perform more efficiently. That's how they lower your home's energy use all year, saving you money on a regular basis.
4- This technology gathers data from all of our household appliances and allows us to control them all from one place.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableOur system created a smart home by controlling fans, light bulbs, and air conditioning with image processing utilising OPENCV human recognition code and several sensors.
When tested, both the hardware and software modules produced met the purpose of a secure home automation system admirably.
It also ensures that energy is used efficiently in the home because devices are intelligently managed by Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
