The project is basically based on the development of a device which measures the levels of different harmful gases in the air which are the leading causes of air pollution. 

Project Objectives

Main: To provide Air Quality Index ( AQI) of a shorter area in a city rather than having one device which would measure at one or two points and publish that data claiming it of the whole city. Our device is designed such that it would be portable, affordable and could be placed at various locations in a city and enable the user view the AQI of that particular location.  Since 2018, the AQI of Pakistan has gone worst stealing the top position from Delhi in India, thus, a device is necessary which could provide an accurate and realistic data.

Project Implementation Method

A device is to be made which is capable of sensing those gases which contribute to a higher or worse air quality index (AQI). For that purpose, a circuitry of sensors is to be designed, which would communicate with the microcontroller. The microcontroller will deliver the results to the user via sim or a public WiFi connection. The power input method which would comprise of a solar strip, and alternatively AAA batteries would be used to cover for any inconvenience of solar strips.

1) This device would be used to measure AQI index of a shorter area which would be more accurate and reliable.

2) It would be low powered, affordable and portable device which could be kept at various points in the city. 

3) When it will be embedded with maps, it would provide the government with instant data to take necessary steps in the particular area where the AQI is quite high.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It would be a smart, affordable and portable product which would have a microcontroller either Tiva or Raspberry pi,connected with the circuit of different sensors such as Nova PM SDS011 to measure PM 2.5 and PM 10, MQ-7 to measure CO, MQ-135 to measure benzene, carbon dioxide and NH3, dht-11 to measure temperature. The measure of presence of such gases would be fed to the microcontroller by using ADCs, which would calculate the AQI index. The algorithm for the calculation would be designed similar to how it is used globally and leaving the space for the gases which won't be measured here. The measured value at that instant would be sent to the server or user which could be employed in maps to warn the user not to enter into a particular region having high AQI.
