AI Based Smart Alert System for Drowsy Driver Detection
Machine learning techniques have been used in order to predict the condition and emotion of a driver to provide information that will improve safety on the road. It is an application of artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is a method by which systems can automatically learn as well as improve without being explicitly programmed. A drivers condition can be estimated by bio-indicators, behavior while driving as well as the expressions on the face of a driver. In this project, we present a system that works on OPenCV & provides the output needed.
The objective of this project is to build a drowsiness detection system that will detect that if a person is drowsy while driving, this system will alert the driver when drowsiness is detected. Along with the alert, this system will send the location of the driver & a text message to near-by police station, relatives & hospital to save the driver in case any emergency happens or before that.
Step 1 – Take image as input from a camera.
Step 2 – Detect the face in the image and create a Region of Interest (ROI).
Step 3 – Detect the eyes from ROI and feed it to the classifier.
Step 4 – Classifier will categorize whether eyes are open or closed.
Step 5 – Calculate score to check whether the person is drowsy.
Driver drowsiness detection is a car safety technology which prevents accidents when driver is getting drowsy. Driver inattention might be the result of lack of alertness when driving due to drowsiness and distraction. The system alerts driver through alarm in real time & save him from any mishap. It will improve safety on the road.
The system works through a camera which will detect the drivers eyes. After that, the inout goes onto the Raspberry Pi which performs algorithm to check if the driver is drowssy or not. The Pi is then connected to an alarm system. If the driver is drowsy, then the alarm system will turn on. Also, the Pi is connected to a GSM & GPS module. In case the driver isn't alert after the alarm then the system will the location & a text message to near-by police station, hospital & relatives.
