Air pollution is becoming a serious issue due to the increase in the concentration of Greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere. Increasing air pollution not only affects global warming, but also directly affects human health. “Around seven million people die every year from exposure to fine particles in polluted air that lead to diseases such as stroke, heart disease, lung cancer … and respiratory infections” (WHO). Due to this Air pollution, weather is becoming more hot and changes occur in global climate.
Like Air pollution there is another main Challenge face to the world; water pollution, which also affects the human health directly and indirectly, whether it is drinking, domestics, production or recreational purposes. The records show that more than 14000 people died daily worldwide due to water pollution.
There is a need for continuous monitoring of air and Water Quality in major cities and industrial areas, followed by responsible corrective actions and plans by the government. This requires accurate, periodic measurement of the critical parameters considered major contributors to deteriorating air and Water quality. The aim of this project is to design a wireless sensor network that will record and report the concentration of all such pollutants and also predict through Artificial intelligence ahead 3 to 5 hours or a day. In addition, profiling data is aimed to include sensors to record meteorological conditions, to study an overall impact on the climate. This system is planned to be portable, energy-efficient, connected to cloud for central data storage, access and management.
Making a device for measuring air and water quality consisting of various water and air sensors that can take the water sample as well as air and evaluate its quality through different sensor and Artificial Intelligence techniques and different processes on it and can tell us that water and air are good for the survival of living things or not.
Project Objectives- To design and present an Air and water quality measurement system that is composed of a distributed sensor forming a sensor network.
- To utilize the designed prototype for measuring different Air and water pollutants at different location (urban and rural).
- To come up with an air monitoring system that will enable and warn the climate agencies in particular and general public in general about alarming rate of the rising dust and greenhouse gases, and about the quality of the water and to take appropriate measures to restore stable air and water composition.
- To design the desired system, similar design techniques will be studied and a system design with relevant sensors will be proposed, procured, tested and installed.
- For Predication, Artificial Intelligence system will be used.
- Relevant Cloud network will be used for the logging of the data.
- As different cities of Pakistan are becoming more industrialized, urbanized and densely populated, maintaining a good ambient Air and water Quality becomes a major challenge. It is recognized that there is a need to address the Air and water Pollution issues in these cities.
- Once we get the recorded data from the sensors then it will be compare with some reference values. From the comparison we will conclude which area or city is under the attack of Air Pollution and where the water is not suitable for drinking. If the concentration of the mentioned gases in air and the pollutants in water in an area was higher than the expected, then it will be reported to lead to further action by relevant agencies.
- This project is aimed to be an enabler and catalyst in informed policy making related to Air Quality, Water Quality, Industrialization, Urbanization and Climate Change, Public Health and Policy..
The proposed monitoring of air and water quality consisting of various water and air sensors that can take both the sample of water and air and evaluate its quality through different methods of sensor and artificial intelligence and different processes on it and can tell us that water and air are good or not good for living things to live. With the aid of AI, it predicts the Air and Water Quality for coming hours up to 3 to 5 hours and it can also tell us before the human decision that the future situation is good or bad.
