Introduction Animal diseases are becoming severe threats to the farmers. An efficient system is required for the continuous monitoring of animal health parameters. From which we get direct information about the health of each animal in a farm by using wearable sensors.

Animal diseases are becoming severe threats to the farmers. An efficient system is required for the continuous monitoring of animal health parameters. From which we get direct information about the health of each animal in a farm by using wearable sensors.

Problem Statement

It is humanly impossible to monitor all the dairy farm cows 24/7 and the smart systems are not available in Pakistan or if we import the solution it is very expensive to implement and maintain. Hence need a cheaper IoT system that monitors cow’s temperature and heart rate. For any abnormal pattern in the collected data immediately send alert to veterinarians and farm managers.

Summary

Smart dairy farming system is the key concept that can satisfy the increasing demand of quality dairy products. Smart systems can reduce environmental issues, decrease the use of resources, and raise animal health by using advanced sensing and data analyzing technologies. Milk is the most demanding product since 2015 and it has become a product with heavy price ?uctuation.

Project Objectives

  1. Programmed Hardware: An IoT device that monitors cow’s health 24/7
  2. Cloud Database: All the data collected from cows will be stored in a cloud database
  3. Temperature detection: To determine fever and accurate and time-sensitive heat detection.
  4. Blood Pressure Detection: Timely blood pressure tracking of cows does monitoring abnormal patterns in blood pressure and alert the farm managers as soon detected.
  5. 24/7 Wireless reading: Easy setup using farm’s Wi-Fi. Wireless communication to monitor
  6. Easily usable system: A non-technical farmer can easily understand the smart cattle management system and use it

Project Implementation Method

This Software will be a web-based dashboard solution. Made with the new MERN Stack 3-tier  architecture. The IoT Hardware will be directly connected to MongoDB and timely upload data to the cloud. APIs will be RESTFUL and Model View Controller (MVC) based.

3 Tiers:

  1. The database: MongoDB
  2. APIs / Backend: Node and Express
  3. Frontend: React

For Hardware a Raspberry Pi module will be used with sensors to build a wearable device for cow.

Benefits of the Project

  1. Alert System: Immediately notify farm owner if the cow is sick.
  2. AI Prediction: Milk yield prediction using Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  3. User Roles: Easy Management and everyone will get access according to their roles.
  4. Access Anywhere: It is a cloud-based solution so it can be accessed anywhere.
  5. Cow Health Monitoring: The user can monitor a cow’s health by accessing the system anytime.
  6. Farm Expense Management: The Farm expense mainly includes feed but other expenses will also be managed in the system.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

  • Dashboard: Usability heuristics will be used to measure the frontend of the smart dairy farm dashboard.
  • Cloud NoSQL Database: All the data collected from the cow will be stored in a cloud database.
  • Standalone REST APIs: MVC-based architecture.
  • Cow Wearable made with Raspberry Pi: an IoT device that monitor cow’s health 24/7.
  • AI Milk Yield Prediction
