Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe purpose of our project is to design a motor controlled drone that is capable of dispersing seeds in different regions on the earth with the potential for reforestation. The project is divided into three main parts a hex copter; a computer controlled seed dispenser/gun and software that would control the seed dispenser, design a mission trajectory through GPS coordinates and would control the movements and communication of drone.
The hex copter would be designed to carry weight of the other hardware components. The hex copter would be equipped with a multispectral camera that would take visual data and would create a 3D map and with a seed dispenser that would dispense seed into the ground from certain height.
The seed dispenser would consist of a container to store seeds and would have a controlled mechanism for dispersing those seeds. This motor would regulate the flow of seed dispersal and would be designed to fit the hex copter.
Project ObjectivesReforestation drone will provide us aid in planting seeds automatically in any area, and other features as:
- Every single detail about the health of forest, and composition of sand
- Will work in areas having no access of internet.
- Live coverage
- Will meet one of the SDG’s goal [7, 13, 15]
- Help to overcome many major issues Globalwarming,loss of biodiversity etc
Mission Planner used for controlling, ArduPllot would be used for simulation, planning flight, enabling disabling the hardware, setting flight data and for configuration.Ardunio Studio, software would be used to design an android app that would be used by the operator from ground station to operate the drone using their smartphones.
GPS Coordinate Generator software which runs in Ardunio would be used in integration with other soft wares and would receive input from operator and design the mission path and plans the plotting.
Hex copter is an autonomous flying vehicle that is powered by a battery, would be operated by an operator using an app. The drone as shown in figure 3 has an Autopilot Flight Control Board as the central unit that receives the commands from a Radio Control System and uses a GPS system for navigation.
Multispectral Camera is used in the project in order to determine the health of the soil and the vegetation. As the aerial images re obtained they are then processed by the camera for generating the orthomosaics with the health information of the soil. And finally soil composition index will be generated from the orthomosaics for better interpretation of the user. According to which the seeds would be the fired once required area is mapped out from the data.The seed gun or dispenser would be designed such to hold the seeds and would be programmed to fire these seeds into earth from certain height with a defined speed within a certain time period.when the operation of the drone starts the switch is turned on which triggers the gun into power state. With which the Ardunio is turned n and it starts working by doing calibration and mapping of the area where seeds are to be dispersed. The commands are the fed to the motors and the gun fires bullets into targeted area. With each seed bullet being fired the Leds turns on and gives indication. And the process ends when the target is achieved.
Benefits of the Project•The drone would plant 10 seeds per minute (approximately 3,600 seeds in one day) and one billion trees a year.
•One operator can control multiple drones (6 drones) at a time.
•Would plant seeds in areas where human reach is inaccessible due to rough topography or infrastructure issues.
•The drone would monitor the soil erosion, soil fertility, soil n environment humidity level using algorithms.
