Project Summary

Humidity is one of the many quantities we deal with in our daily lives. When water vapours in the air collide with a cold object, the vapours condense into water, which is humidity. We can define humidity as the moisturization of air. Measuring humidity in the environment is important because the higher the humidity, the warmer the environment appears. Humidity measurement is significant in many businesses since it can effect employee health and safety as well as product cost. Different types of sensors are developed to measure and monitor humidity.
A good humidity sensor should have a high sensitivity, a wide detection range, a quick reaction and recovery time, and outstanding durability and repeatability.

Different materials, including as silver and graphene, are utilised to create the humidity sensor in order to improve the response, sensitivity, and recovery time.
Although optical humidity sensors are sensitive to a wide range of relative humidity, their Limit of Detection (LoD) is low. This is due to the materials' weak characteristics, as well as the electrode pattern and design methods. High sensitivity, quick response and recovery times, reproducibility (stability/cyclic performance), fabrication methods, electrode layout, transduction mechanism, and cost are all characteristics of humidity sensors.

The proposed optical humidity sensor will be fabricated, Electrical characterizations will be performed in detail in order to analyze the performance of sensor. The developed device will be applied in practical applications like real-time humidity monitoring activity.

Project Objectives

1. To design highly sensitive humidity based on optical transmittance change using simple and cost-effective principle.
2. Sensor’s electrical, mechanical and electrochemical characterizations will be performed.
3. In-house humidity characterization setup will be designed.
4. The applications like environmental monitoring (precise and accurate measurement) and electrical applications will be demonstrated.
5. 3D printed technology and spray coating methods will be used to develop sensors.
 

Project Implementation Method

1. 3D printing technology is used to prepare the casing(Which is designed in SOLIDWORKS software ) for installation of light source, light detector, and 2D material based glass substrate.


2. Spray coating method is used to deposit the 2D material on glass substrate.(like silver and graphene spray coating we'll use ).

Benefits of the Project

1. our sensor will be  a highly linear and it will have quick  response in a large humidity detective range of RH 3.8?90%. 

2. It will also work efficiently in high temperature . and it is cost effective if it is made in bulk quantity.

3. It will have a high accuracy, as compare to the commercial sensors .

4. Its reponse and recovery time is quick.

5.it will work in Harsh environment like in a high pressure enviroment ,like in stormy weather.

6. it will possess a high durablity . 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

When the project is complete, the following hardware prototypes with different uses are created: The reason for this is that the humidity caused by the oil used in the transformer is improperly controlled, especially because the summer temperatures are so high. Reach and the humidity rises. Moisture can be detected and appropriate measures can be taken to protect these electrical applications.

Humidity control in storing  food is known to be essential, so a basic example is a  warehouse where food is stored in tons , as rising humidity requirements can have a significant negative impact on the economy. You can  use it. The main function is detection. Then you can take some appropriate steps to prevent this large amount of food from being wasted.
