Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryDriving is an essential part of our daily routine. According to the data published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics total of 11121, 10779 & 9701 accidents took place in 2018, 2019 & 2020 and claimed the lives of 5948, 5932 & 5436 people respectively in Pakistan alone. So, in accordance with this our idea is to develop a partially automated system for Self-driving vehicles. The system is supposed to be equipped with the Object and Obstacle detection System that will determine obstacles. The System is also supposed to be equipped with a Lane detection. We will be using Image processing and radars for the purpose of Object and Obstacle Detection.
Project ObjectivesThe objectives which we will be trying to achieve through this project are mentioned below:
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Object and Obstacle Detection
Our project has two main objectives and due to their complexity both of them should be considered individually:
Object and Obstacle Detection:
We will be doing object and obstacle detection through image processing and Lidar.
Lane Detection:
We will be doing lane detection using Image processing techniques.
Benefits of the ProjectThe project has several benefits some of them are mentioned below:
- It will increase the overall passengers and driver safety.
- It will help reduce the accidents on highways and motorways
Our first Deliverable would be a vehicle that would be performing lane detection and will travel in between the road lanes.
