A new Smart Gas Valve and Sensing System for Gas Leakage in Domestic Application
Project Area of Specialization Shared EconomyProject Summary| The aim of this project is to design a smart gas valve for domestic applications, which will automatically shut off the valve when there is gas leakage in room. And as we know that the people of Balochistan (especially Quetta) having the issue of gas leakage which loses many precious lives each year inside their homes but there was no way to stop this killing process forever but now it will become possible to save many lives. There is no system on the market today that monitors domestic issues of natural gas and shuts off the gas leakage in a room to prevent from a sudden death of our beloved ones. This has resulted in many deaths as reported in the media. So, the aim of this project is to design a smart gas valve that will use sensors which are interfaced with a microcontroller, which will shut off the gas valve to avoided death accidents in our homes. When a natural gas is detected, the microcontroller actuates the servo motor and turns off the gas valve thus preventing potential explosions and fire. |
The aim of this project is to design a smart gas valve for domestic applications, which will automatically shut off the valve when there is gas leakage in room.
Project Objectives1. Design a rechargeable universal smart gas valve that can be installed with heaters, stoves, geezers, and ovens in domestic and commercial buildings.
2. Make a gas sensing module for monitoring the concentrations of gases in the facility to turn the valve off wirelessly before any hazard.
3. Design the smart valve without compromising the safety and quality and make a low cost and buyable solution to capture the market.
Project Implementation MethodIn this project, we have to design a smart gas valve for domestic applications, which will automatically shut off the valve through which the gas flowing when there is gas leakage in the room by using electronic valve, microcontroller, heat sensors, and servo motors. When the heater is on so the pressure of the gas will high and the heat sensor will be detecting the heat of the heater. While the heater turns off so the pressure of the gas will be low then the sensor will generate a signal to the microcontroller which will actuate the servo motor and the servo will close the electronic valve. The microcontroller in this project accepts as an input 0 volt to 2.5 volts, but the sensor has an output voltage that is in mV range. In order to make the sensor compatible with the microcontroller, some analog design had to be implemented which would take these small voltage outputs and amplify them. The programming for the microcontroller needs to be able to accept input data from 2 pins, analyze this analog signal and convert it to a digital (hexadecimal value), which will tell servo motor that the pressure of the gas is low, and the electronic valve will be closed according to the command of the servo motor. The results of this design project will be extremely satisfactory. We have to produce a fully functioning and reliable such a smart gas valve
Benefits of the ProjectBy this project, we will control the pressure drop of gas that leads to killing innocent citizens each winter. We will replace the traditional gas valves by this smart valves that cut the supply of gas in case of low pressure or absence of gas from a supply company. More ever it will be a new mechanism that can indicate the high concentration of carbon dioxide and shortage of oxygen supply for breathing in the room installed with heater. Hence, there is a need of an electronically controlled smart valve that not only monitors the incoming gas but also can monitor the CO2 and O2 concentration in the room so that by cutting the gas supply lives can be saved in cold regions of Pakistan like Quetta city.
