Project Title

A new multilevel inverter with genetic algorithm optimization for hybrid power station application

Project Area of Specialization

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Project Summary

In some few years multilevel inverter has taken a vast place in industrial application and widely used in different application such as static power converter for high power applications, FACTS devices, HVDC and also as electric drives for all AC motors. Another major advantage is their switching frequency is lower than a traditional inverter, for this it has less switching losses and higher voltage capability.

Here the basic concept is to eliminate specific harmonics with a proper choice of switching angles. Multilevel inverter will be simulated using different tools. Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization technique will be used to achieve proper switching angles and reduce the total harmonic distortion. A selective lower order harmonics with fundamental components at the desired values will be eliminated.

Project Objectives

  1. Simulation of multi-level inverter using different tools (LT-SPICE, MATLAB)
  2. Harmonic elimination  using genetic algorithm.

Project Implementation Method

An inverter is a circuit which converts a DC power into an AC power at desired output voltage and frequency. There are different control methodologies that that can be used to implement a single-phase multilevel invertor.

Following are the major milestones to be achieved.

  1. Using  LT-SPICE software for schematic capture and waveform viewer
  2. Simulation on MATLAB Simulink software
  3. Genetic algorithm based Selective Harmonic Elimination

Benefits of the Project

  1. An advantage of MLIs is that their switching frequency is lower than traditional inverters meaning the switching losses are reduced.

2.These MLIs has increased the output voltage and                     brought a way to limitation of classical semiconductor  switches.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

After complting and testing of compiling Simulation of multi-level inverter using different tools (LT-SPICE, MATLAB) and  then by using of Genetic alghorithm tool box in matlab.
